What to do in Penang (Malaysia)

Of course I haven’t visited all of the tourist sites in Penang, still, I tried to pick out my favourites so far.

  • Botanical garden (see my post: Green oasis)

  • Tropical Spice Garden (see my post: Salty and spicy)

  • Penang Hill (Hike up if you’re fit! Or just drive up with the cable car to enjoy the view. Make sure the sky is somewhat clear when you’re going up.)

  • Clan houses: Khoo Kongsi & Cheah Kongsi (see my post: Khoo Kongsi)

  • Clan jetties (an experience for itself, very photogenic, doesn’t smell all too good)

  • Temples (I especially liked “Han Jiang Ancestral Temple”, but just check out those you stumble upon on your way…you might find a hidden gem.)

  • Penang State Museum (If you’re interested in learning about the historical background of the city.)

  • Protestant cemetery (established in 1786, beautiful gravestones and frangipani trees, grave of Francis Light- founder of the colony of Penang)

  • Georgetown stroll: Jalan Kek Chuan etc. (walk along those streets full of history, street art and wonderful architecture)
